Nandha Dynasty

MahaPadma Nanda an illegitimate son of King Mahanandin(Sisunga dynasty) established Nanda Dynasty by overthrowing Sisunga Dynasty from Magadha in 424 B.C. MahaPadma Nanda was succeded by his eight sons. He ruled a bulk period of this dynasty and died at the age of 88. He was the first king from non-kshatriya origin to rule North India. Later he was succeded by his eight sons who were unworthy to rule. Nanda had a vast army since they inherited the large kingdoms of Magadha and wished to extend it's frontiers beyond Magadha. Dhana Nanda who was the last from the Nanda dynasty, never had the oppurtunity to use this army against Alexander who terminated his camapaign in Pujab.
Dhana Nanda was overthrown by Chandra Gupta Maurya and his mentor Chanakya in 321 B.C.

Mahapadma Nanda was said to have destroyed all the kshatriyan clans in North India to establish his Dynasty.
